Questions businesses ask
What is the average business gas price per kWh?
Across all UK businesses the average was 5.28p per kWh in Q2 2026, including the Climate Change Levy and excluding VAT, according to government figures. The smallest gas users paid an average of 9.31p.
Why is business gas cheaper per kWh than electricity?
Gas is a cheaper fuel to produce and deliver per unit of energy, and carries lower network and policy costs per kWh. Electricity prices also include the cost of generating power, much of it from gas.
Is there a price cap for business gas?
No. The Ofgem price cap only covers household tariffs. Business gas is priced contract by contract.
Can I fix my business gas price?
Yes. Most small businesses choose a fixed contract, usually one to three years, which fixes the unit rate and standing charge. Larger users sometimes choose flexible contracts that buy gas in blocks over time.
